Birthday Celebration in the time of Covid...without zoom!

Birthday Celebration in the time of Covid...without zoom!

My son’s birthday is in July, which means that there’s always all 6 cousins (3 local and 3 international) at the party, in addition to 12-15 friends! This year was very DIFFERENT!

This year there were no cousins, our move means that no family is local and Covid means that we can’t travel back and the international family can’t travel either. Adding Covid restrictions to this birthday celebration created an additional challenge to my son’s 8th Birthday, which only meant that I needed to step up my game! I could have done another zoom party, which I successfully did for my daughter’s 10th birthday… but he’s zoomed out! He wanted an in person fun party, he wanted (needed) to forget covid!

We decided that we would have 3 friends join us for an outdoor socially spaced birthday party that would required the guests to keep masks on. Turns out, you can still celebrate in a mask and have tons of fun without touching each other! We spaced the kids around the outdoor table and provided them with an individualized party kit, so that we didn’t need to get too close to them throughout the party.

To entertain and engage the kids we:

  • Played a Trivia game

  • Decorated a personalized cupcake (so that we didn’t need to blow out candles on a cake, or deal wit cutting/touching anyone’s food)

  • Played an impressive game of Silly String Tag (The BEST way to stay active and distant!)

  • Sprinkler Hopped (It was a scorcher!)

Of course the table included the usual balloon decorations, and since it a covid-summer there was some sanitizer and water towels to help the kids stay clean and cool.

If you need ideas on how to celebrate during a time of Covid and Social distancing, reach out to @PartywithME! for Party packages.

We of course can help facilitate the party or simply send you the supplies with detailed instructions. All birthdays deserve to be celebrated, especially when we have to work to create happy moments.
