Another Pandemic Birthday Party Success!

Another Pandemic Birthday Party Success!

This past weekend was my youngest son’s 7th Birthday Party, which was sandwiched between the Jewish holidays, and if you’re keeping up with the count, our family’s 4th birthday during this pandemic and our 3rd children’s birthday party. I was very aware of celebration fatigue, especially this year when everyone is just mentally and emotionally fatigued(!), which meant that we really needed to make it good!

I was very aware that we had to focus on celebrating my son, he needed to feel joy and friendship at his Birthday Party! He had been discussing and planning his party since early August, enlisting my father (who led my childhood birthday parties) to brainstorm old school games that we could enjoy while masked and physically distanced. (We’ll have to save the Candy hidden in a mound of flour for post pandemic celebrations… ) I’m happy to say that we pulled it off!

It was with such delight that the 5 boys that joined our party took their assigned seats at our 2 patio tables, marked with placemats to ensure space was maintained. The boys enjoy seated activities, which included Making their own Bouncy Balls (a surprise to my son!), Pass the Parcel (which they got to toss to each other more than pass to make the distance, which they LOVED!) and Decorating Cupcakes to take home to enjoy. To keep the boys attention and to set them up for success, we also had more active games that allowed for more movement, these games were played on marked spots on the patio for spacing and included Balloon Shaving (a novelty for the 7 & 8 year olds 🤣) , Surprise Balloon Pop (they were surprisingly, or not, speedy at this!), Popper Challenge, Candle in a Bottle Challenge, and the always successful Silly String Tag.

At the end of the party I got the official stamp of approval with a “Thanks eema (mom), that was the best!”.💕
IMO every parent’s goal is to create happiness for their children, and Birthday Parties are the perfect occasion to celebrate our children and help them feel loved by those that surround them.
